Pep Guardiola’s side progressed past RB Leipzig to get to this stage of the competition and will need to beat another Bundesliga side if they want to win the tournament this year.
City have still never won the Champions League. They lost in the final back in 2021, before falling to a damaging extra-time defeat in the semi-final against Real Madrid a year later.
It is the only major competition Guardiola has not won at City and he will be eager to put that demon behind him, but there is no doubt they will be tested to the limits by Bayern.
Thomas Tuchel, who took charge of the German giants last month, was the manager of Chelsea when they overcame City in the final in May 2021. But Guardiola will be keen for revenge, starting at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening in the first-leg of the quarter-final tie.
Speaking in his press conference, Guardiola said: “We want to try against an elite club like Bayern Munich. You have to deserve it, we try to do the first tomorrow. The question comes six, seven years ago. it comes every single season. We tried every single season but there are teams that you face that they are good too.”
